Grade 8 Boys Claim Volleyball Championship

The St. Joseph's Jaguars Grade 8 Boys traveled to Arnprior Friday and posted an undefeated record during playoff action en-route to the 2009 RCEIAA Eastern Division Volleyball Championship.

The win for Coach Stacey McGregor's team means a trip to Pembroke Wednesday to compete against the Western Division for the county Championship.

Senior Girls Win Trip To EOSSAA

The Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to General Panet last evening for an EOSSAA qualifier and won the most exciting game of the year 53-52. The Jaguars trailed after all of the first 3 quarters but in the fourth quarter they prevailed with clutch shooting and tight agressive defense to finish on top.

Natalie Walters led the Jaguars with a career high 26 points with Sarah MacLaren chipping in 14 points. Excellent work to all girls. Practice on Monday morning at 7am and Tuesday after school in preparation of their trip to EOSSAA next Wednesday and Thursday at Rideau High School in Elgin.

Junior Girls Conclude Season

Last night the junior girls basketball team came up short in their bid to go to EOSSAA.

Ill-timed turnovers proved costly as Madawaska did not allow us to take the lead when we needed. Melissa Verch had her season high in points with 14 and Shannon Charbonneau added another basket.

It was a great season and over too quickly.

Senior Boys Off To Semis Today

On Tuesday, the senior boys volleyball team split their playoff matches.

With a win over Bishop Smith and a tough, close loss to Madawaska, the team was able to advance to the semi-finals today in Arnprior.

With pride and determination, the team vows to put on the best performance of the year.

Junior Girls Drop Playoff Match To RCI

The junior girls went across town to challenge RCI in quarterfinal action last night.

It was a very close match with the lead being passed back forth all game until the forth quarter when some key shooting gave RCI the win. Leanne Lecompte led the team with 12 points, Rebecca MacLaren had 9 and Alanna Moss had 6 rebounds. Great effort ladies.

We are now awaiting the results from the other single A school for EOSSA qualification.

Senior Girls Advance Against Fellowes

The girls began their playoff season with a victory over the visiting Fellowes Falcons 30-24.

The Jaguars came out to a strong start with a 12-0 run to begin the game and were encouraged by a roaring Jaguar Nation!! Natalie Walters led the squad with 13 points. All girls contributed to the win with tenacious defense and agressive pressure on the ball.

There will be a meeting in room 321 at 12:15 today to discuss practice for next week and our next game!!

Jaguars Split Pair With Arnprior

The Senior Boys volleyball team lost a close match to Arnprior last night. Although the team played well, they had a little difficulty capitalizing on every opportunity. Come on out tomorrow night as the season comes to a close against Madawaska.

The Junior boys volleyball team defeated Arnprior last night 3 games to 1 to bring our season to 6 wins 2 loses. All members of the team contributed to the win. We seem to have reached our peak to go into playoffs next week. Well done guys. Practice tonight.

Jags Sweep Twin Bill From Wildcats

Both boy's volleyball teams continued their winning ways Thursday, posting a sweep over the Opeongo Wildcats in Junior and Senior Volleyball.

The junior boys volleyball team defeated Opeongo last night in five games to bring our season to 5 wins and 2 loses. All members of the team contributed to the win.

The Senior Boys volleyball team continued their winning ways last night with a 3-0 victory over Opeongo. Come on out Tuesday night to support your school teams as the top two teams, Arnprior and your Senior Jaguars, battle it out for supremacy on the court. Game time is 4:00 p.m.. See you all there!

Senior Girls Come Back To Defeat Wolves

Senior Girls Basketball completed their season on Tuesday evening with a 32 - 25 come from behind victory over the visiting Madawaska Wolves.

Kaitlyn Verch and Caroline Holley led the Jaguars with 10 and 8 points respectively. Practice tonight after school with the Juniors. Game will start at 3:30.

Jaguars Sweep Raiders At RCI

The junior boys volleyball team played their best volleyball of the season and defeated our cross-town rivals RCI three games to none.

This brings our season to 4 wins and 2 losses. Well done. Practice tonight after school.

The Senior boys volleyball team played RCI last night in the battle of Renfrew. Through some inconsistent play, we lost the opening match but came out flying in game two to win convincingly.

Game three was a struggle but the team was able regain their focus and mount a massive comeback. Trailing 24 - 20, the team rallied to tie the game and eventually win 32 - 30. Game four saw similar action with the Jags trailing 10 - 2 early, the team started to crawl back into the match. Trailing again 24-22, we rallied once again to win 26-24. Excellent comeback lads.

MacLaren Leads Jags To Big Win over Madawaska

Last night the junior girls play Madawaska Valley from Barry's Bay and came out with a 29-19 win. Rebecca MacLaren had a great outing with 22 points. Good work ladies.

Senior Boys Volleyball

Last Saturday, the senior boys volleyball team travelled to Perth to demonstrate their competitiveness. With only 6 guys making the trip, we knew it would be difficult.

After a few hours of excellent play, the team found themselves in first place after round robin play. They defeated, North Grenville, Sharbot Lake and split the match with Perth. The guys showed character all day and came out flying in the quarter-final match but started to lose energy. The guys were running on reserve energy sources and they were drying up also and they ended up losing to Napanee.

Things look very good for the team as we enter the hectic part of our schedule. Come support your team tonight at RCI as the battle of Renfrew takes place. Seniors play at 3:30 and the juniors at 5:00. Go Jags!

Junior Jags Take Key "A" Division Contest

The junior girls basketball team notched another victory last night with a 29-20 victory over the Mackenzie Mustangs.

Rebecca MacLaren had 9 while Leanne Lecompte had 7 and Hannah "the Flower" Lafleur had 4 timely points. It was a big "Single A" division win and we are working towards next weeks Madawaska match up.

Senior Jaguars Out-Run Mustangs

The Senior girls won a tight contest last evening 22-17 over the visiting Mustangs.

Natalie Walters and Hailey Miller led the Jaguars with 8 points each. Caroline Holley played a strong game on defense and brought down numerous rebounds. Good game ladies!

All-Star Game Showcases Jaguar Talent

Five members of the Junior and Senior Jaguars attended the All Star Game last evening at Mackenzie High School in Deep River.

In Junior action, Rebecca McLaren and Melissa Verch helped lead a South squad to a 38-13 victory over the rival North. Rebecca led all scorers with 10 points in the contest.

In Senior action, with seconds remaining, 2 clutch free throws (and an interesting Jackie Watters impersonation) by the Jaguars Natalie Walters captivated a come from behind victory for the South squad 28-27. Hailey Miller and Karla Belton were credited with strong defensive efforts by the coach in this exhibition encounter. Excellent representation and sportsmanship of all the Jaguars was witnessed in these action-packed games.

To see the girls in action come out to the Jaguar Den this Tuesday evening beginning at 3:30pm with the Senior game and followed right after by the Juniors as they face the visiting Mustangs of Mackenzie in some match-ups leading to the playoffs push. Lets hear the Jaguar ROAR!!!

The Jagettes pulled of the 23-4 victory with tough defense and timely scoring. Melissa Verch scored 10 points, Rebecca MacLaren had 7 and Abby Freemark had 4. Great game girls.

Senior Boys Scratch Out Win

The Senior Boys Vollebyball team would like to thank all of the students and staff who came out to watch us on Tuesday night after school.

Although the team started off slow with mishits, they were able to finally get a spark with some key hits and blocks by Kenny Cobus, Chris Ivory and Tom Prince. The enthusiasm from the home crowd also helped us to elevate the team's game to where it should be. Thankfully, they were able to finally start demonstrating some of their abilities for you as they demonstrated Jaguar character and determination fighting back from two games down to win the match 3 games to 2.

We hope all of you and more will be on hand to cheer us on next Tuesday to a quicker and sharper Senior team.

Senior Boys Take EOSSAA Soccer Crown

Up against some stiff competition, and against a backdrop of some pretty dismal weather, the St. Joseph's Jaguars Senior Boys went undefeated through tournament play and emerged Eastern Ontario 'A' Division Champions at the EOSSAA Championship Series late last week.

The victory sends the Jaguars to the All-Ontario championship starting Wednesday.

St. Joseph's route to the final came courtesy of a couple of offensive efforts, an opening 4-2 victory over St. Francis, followed by a 5-2 win over Marie Riviere to guarantee the Renfrew club a spot in the final. Ryan Cuthill, Chris Ivory, Chris Jedrezczak, and Alec Vice provided the scoring against St. Francis, while in the second game, it was Ivory with a pair, and Jedrezczak, Vice, and Phil Carter chipping in with singles.

Against host club Notre Dame in the final, Alec Vice put the Jags up early with a key strike, but the squad found itself behind a goal early in the second half. Vice struck again later in the half, bending one just under the crossbar on a free kick from 30 yards out, sending the final in overtime.

A foul on Chris Ivory in the penalty area set up a penalty shot, and Vice once again stepped up, driving one home for the winner.

Jaguars coach Mark Valliquette described the club's effort as "amazing" throughout the day, and also singled out the team defense and efforts of goaltender Brandon Woertink as key contributors to the championship effort.

St. Joseph's now travels to London, Ontario to represent Eastern Ontario in the OFSAA playdowns.
